The analytical expertise and experience of Model Supply Chains supports companies to make better informed decisions relating to the structure of their supply chain operations to deliver better trade-offs between cost, customer service, sustainability and risk. Our preferred approach to consulting is highly collaborative, seeking to work together with our clients on projects as much as possible, and ensuring transfer of knowledge and expertise wherever appropriate. This approach blends our specialist technical expertise and experience with our clients’ deep knowledge of their own business’s operations. The extent of involvement of client team members – and the nature of our contribution – will vary from engagement to engagement, depending on our client’s requirements, the availability of client resources, skill development requirements, etc.
On any given supply chain design project, our client may want us to provide some of the following services:
On-demand project consulting and advice
This includes areas such as:
● project scope and developing a robust project brief,
● methodology and tools to adopt,
● model development guidance,
● data assessment (and guidance on how to get around lack of data or poor data quality),
● periodic project reviews.
Modelling and scenario analysis
The extent of our involvement can vary widely, for example:
● provision of specialist advice to experienced client analysts,
● create initial base-line model(s) and deliver them with training and documentation to the client’s analysis team,
● outsourcing of certain aspects of modelling and scenario analysis (e.g. sustainability or @RISK analysis),
● leadership of modelling and scenario analysis,
● full outsourcing of modelling and scenario analysis,
● developing proof of concept models.
Data management and generating model inputs
● Data extraction, cleaning and summary,
● Generating appropriate assumptions for input into supply chain models (e.g. with the support of key materials cost models or manufacturing cost models).
Training and coaching
● Methodology and / or tools workshop-based training or one-to-one coaching
– either early on in the project, or as a precursor to handover to the client project team.
Project management
● In order to ensure ‘ownership’, we encourage our clients to provide a project manager from within their own organisation
– we can supply appropriate levels of guidance and support (or indeed a full project management service if required).
Developing recommendations and presentation
● Based on the analysis outcomes, supporting presentation of results and making recommendations to key stakeholders.
